Europea en Minos Leuven trokken op woensdag 29 april 2026 voor een namiddagbezoek naar de Europese Commissie in Brussel, waar we een kijkje namen achter de schermen van de instelling en meer leerden over haar werking. Dit bezoek was alweer een unieke kans om het hart van de EU-beleidsvorming van dichtbij te bezichtigen!
Bezoek gemist of waren alle plaatsen volzet? Geen nood, er komt nog een laatste kans om mee te gaan naar een EU-instelling dit semester! Blijf ons volgen …

Europea and Minos Leuven went on Wednesday 29 April 2026 for an afternoon visit to the European Commission in Brussels, where we took a peek behind the scenes of the institution, and where we learned more about its workings. This was yet again a unique opportunity to experience the heart of EU policymaking up close!
Missed the visit, or were all places already taken? No worries, there will be a final chance to go with us to an EU institution later this semester! Stay tuned …
Ambassador’s lecture met z.e. max valstar (2 april 2026) - ambassador’s lecture with h.e. max valstar (2 april 2026)
Kring Historia en Minos Leuven nodigden jullie uit op donderdag 2 april 2026 voor een avond met de Nederlandse plaatsvervangend ambassadeur in België, Z.E. Max Valstar. De Engelstalige lezing ging over de relaties tussen België, Nederland en Europa, over een carrière in de diplomatie, en over de impact van de huidige geopolitieke toestand op het werk van diplomaten. Achteraf kon je de ambassadeur al je vragen over het hedendaagse leven in de diplomatie voorleggen. Het was dé ideale gelegenheid om meer te weten te komen over werken in de diplomatie.
Dit evenement werd mede mogelijk gemaakt met de steun van LOKO.

Kring Historia and Minos Leuven invited you on Thursday 2 April 2026 for an evening with the Dutch Deputy Head of Mission to Belgium, H.E. Max Valstar. The evening focussed on the relations between Belgium, the Netherlands, and Europe, on a career in diplomacy, and on the impact of the current geopolitical situation on the work of diplomats. Afterwards, you could ask the ambassador all your questions about contemporary life in diplomacy. It was the ideal opportunity to learn more about working in diplomacy.

Groot europadebat (23 Maart 2026)

Minos Leuven vierde haar tweede lustrum op maandagavond 23 maart 2026 met het Groot Europadebat. Tijdens dit evenement gingen Europarlementsleden van de Vlaamse partijen met elkaar in debat over de (toekomst van de) Europese economie op vlak van handel, competitiviteit en industriebeleid. Professor Steven Van Hecke (KU Leuven, Fonds involvEU) verzorgde de professionele moderatie van het debat.
Het Groot Europadebat werd georganiseerd samen met studentenvereniging Europea, het KU Leuven Fonds involvEU, en de Leuven Europa Club (LEUC), en werd mede mogelijk gemaakt door de steun van LOKO en het Belgische Liaison Office van het Europees Parlement.

Op 11 maart 2026 kon je mee met Minos Leuven voor een namiddagbezoek aan het Europees Parlement in Brussel. We kregen daarbij inzicht in de rol van het Parlement, de besluitvormingsprocessen en een paar actuele EU-onderwerpen. Kortom, het was een unieke kans om het hart van de EU-beleidsvorming van dichtbij te zien ... en natuurlijk het prachtige gebouw te bezoeken!
Dit bezoek gemist, of waren alle plaatsen reeds volzet? Geen paniek, er komen nog bezoekjes aan EU-instellingen aan bod dit semester! Blijf ons volgen om op de hoogte te blijven.

On 11 March 2026 you could join Minos Leuven for an afternoon visit to the European Parliament in Brussels, where we gained insights into the Parliament’s role, its decision-making processes, and some current EU affairs. It was a unique opportunity to experience up close the heart of EU policymaking … and of course to visit the beautiful building!

Kennismakingsavond, Met minoscafé (23 februari 2026) - Introduction night, with minos cafe (23 february 2026)
Vanaf 20u was iedereen welkom op maandagavond 23 februari 2026 in koffiebar Noir om bij een drankje en in een gemoedelijke sfeer Minos te leren kennen. We beantwoordden al je vragen en gaven uitleg over Minos en haar werking.
Tijdens de Kennismakingsavond hield drs. Matthieu Vanderschommen een informele lezing geven over zijn onderzoek naar institutionele hervormingen binnen de EU. Zo koppelden we meteen het inhoudelijke aan het sociale, volledig waar Minos voor staat!

Everyone was welcome on Monday 23 February 2026 from 8 PM onwards in Noir Coffee Bar to enjoy a drink and get to know Minos in a cosy atmosphere. We answered all your questions and explained more about Minos and its activities.
During the Introduction Night, PhD researcher Matthieu Vanderschommen gave an informal lecture on his research on institutional reforms within the EU. This way, we connected the substantive with the social, perfectly reflecting Minos' core concept!
Workshop Europees Debat (18 februari 2026) - Workshop European Debate (18 february 2026)
Minos Leuven en Leuven Debating Society (LDS) sloegen ook dit jaar opnieuw de handen in elkaar voor een uiterst boeiende workshop! Op woensdagavond 18 februari 2026 kon je je debatvaardigheden aanscherpen en kennismaken met formele Europese debatstijlen, zoals het Britse en Belgische parlementaire debat. Onze European Debate avond was natuurlijk niet compleet zonder een stelling over een onderwerp gelinkt aan de Europese Unie (EU)!

On Wednesday evening 18 February 2026 you were welcome to come sharpen your debating skills, and get to know some formal European debating styles, such as British and Belgian parliamentary debate. Our European Debate night was of course not complete without a motion on a European Union (EU) topic!

Niemand minder dan Belgisch Eurocommissaris H.E. Hadja Lahbib, bevoegd voor paraatheid en crisismanagement, gaf op donderdagnamiddag 4 december 2025 een inspirerende lezing op een organisatie van KU Leuven Fonds involvEU, Europa Direct Vlaams-Brabant en Minos Leuven. Tijdens haar keynote speech deelde Eurocommissaris Lahbib haar visie op de Europese paraatheid in crisistijd, en ging ze in op de uitdagingen en oplossingen die haar beleid wil aanpakken, van crisismanagement tot internationale samenwerking.
Dit evenement werd mogelijk gemaakt dankzij de medewerking van de Belgische Federale Overheidsdienst Buitenlandse Zaken, Buitenlandse Handel en Ontwikkelingssamenwerking, en eveneens dankzij de Europa Directs van Ingelheim, Kaiserslautern en Karlsruhe.

No one other than Belgian European Commissioner H.E. Hadja Lahbib, responsible for preparedness and crisis management, gave on Thursday afternoon, December 4, 2025, an inspiring lecture at an organisation of KU Leuven Fund involvEU, Europe Direct Vlaams-Brabant, and Minos Leuven. During her keynote speech (in English), Commissioner Lahbib shared her vision on European preparedness in times of crisis. She elaborated on the challenges and solutions her policy aims to address, from crisis management to international cooperation.
This event was made possible thanks to the cooperation of the Belgian Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, and the Europe Directs of Ingelheim, Kaiserslautern, and Karlsruhe.
Bezoek aan de raad van de europese unie & het huis van de europese geschiedenis (28 november 2025) - visit to the council of the european union & the house of european history (28 november 2025)
Op vrijdag 28 november 2025 kon je mee op stap met Kring Historia, Europea, en Minos Leuven naar Brussel voor een ochtendbezoek aan de Raad van de Europese Unie. We kregen er inzicht in de rol van de instelling, de besluitvormingsprocessen en actuele EU-aangelegenheden. Na de lunch zetten we in de namiddag onze reis door Europa voort met een bezoek aan het Huis van de Europese Geschiedenis. Dat museum biedt een prikkelende tentoonstelling over het complexe verleden van Europa en de voortdurende evolutie ervan.
Dit event gemist, of waren alle plaatsen reeds volzet? Geen zorgen, volgend semester plant Minos Leuven opnieuw een bezoekdag aan EU-instellingen. Blijf ons volgen om op de hoogte te blijven!

Kring Historia, Europea, and Minos Leuven went on Friday 28 November 2025 to Brussels for a morning visit to the Council of the European Union. There we gained insights into the institution’s role, decision-making processes, and current EU affairs. After lunch, we continued our journey through Europe in the afternoon with a visit to the House of European History. That museum offers a thought-provoking exhibition on Europe’s complex past and its ongoing evolution.

Infosessie stages bij de EU (27 november 2025) - eu internship infosession (27 november 2025)
Op 27 november organiseerde Minos haar jaarlijkse inzichtrijke avond waarin de boeiende wereld van stages bij EU-instellingen verkend wordt. Onze gastsprekers - allemaal oud-stagiairs - deelden hun ervaringen, en gaven waardevolle tips en praktisch advies om te helpen bij het sollicitatieproces.
Op deze avond kwamen de volgende stages aan bod:
- Het Europees Parlement (i.e., Schuman Traineeship);
- De Europese Centrale Bank (i.e., ECB Traineeship);
- De Europese Commissie (i.e., Blue Book Traineeship);
- Het Europees Hof van Justitie (i.e., Traineeship at the Court Of Justice of the European Union).
Of je nu overwoog te solliciteren of gewoon nieuwsgierig was naar de mogelijkheden, dit evenement was jouw kans om kennis van ervaringsdeskundigen op te doen en hun je brandende vragen voor te leggen.

Our guest speakers, all with firsthand experience, shared their journeys, provided invaluable tips, and offered practical advice to help you stand out in your application process.

Gidstocht 'Op Ontdekking naar Europa in Leuven' (20 oktober 2025)

Op maandag 20 oktober 2025 gingen we op stap door het stadscentrum op zoek naar stukjes Europa in Leuven.
Samen met Europa Direct Vlaams-Brabant, Kring Historia en Minos Leuven nam gids Frederik je op maandag 20 oktober mee voor een leuke wandeling doorheen het stadscentrum, waarbij we getrakteerd werden op boeiende verhalen. Tijdens deze rondleiding ontdekten we meer over de belangrijke Europeanen die in Leuven hun sporen hebben nagelaten, wat de stad bindt met het Europese project, en waar je Europa kan terugvinden in het Leuvense straatbeeld. We stapten onder meer in de voetsporen van de eerste Europeaan, Erasmus, in Leuven en gingen op zoek naar de drukkerij van het wereldbekende werk Utopia. De wist-je-datjes om onze vrienden mee te verbazen kregen we er zomaar bij!

Op woensdagavond 8 oktober was iedereen welkom in koffiebar Noir voor onze Kennismakingsavond. Bij een drankje en in een gemoedelijke sfeer kon je zo Minos gezellig leren kennen. We beantwoordden al je vragen en gaven uitleg over de vereniging en haar werking.
Daarbovenop organiseerden we dezelfde avond ook de Europe 101: een leuke, informele inleiding tot de Europese Unie. Doctoraatstudente Esther D’haeninck van het Instituut voor de Overheid aan de KU Leuven nam je mee in de wondere wereld van de EU, ideaal voor de eerste stapjes in het onderwerp.

On Wednesday evening 8 October everyone was welcome in coffee bar Noir for our Introduction Night, where you could get to know Minos in a cosy atmosphere. We answered all your questions and explained all there is about Minos and its organisation.
The same evening, we also had our Europe 101 session: an informal and interactive introduction session to the European Union. PhD student Esther D’haeninck from the KU Leuven Public Governance Institute took you on a trip through the wonderful world of the EU, which was ideal to get familiar with the subject.
